What is Canine Rehabilitation?

Canine rehabilitation takes theory and principles from human rehabilitation and applies similar techniques to the canine population. The benefits of canine rehabilitation include improved quality of life for your companion dog through decreased pain and increased strength, flexibility, balance, coordination and endurance. athletic dog with ball

Your pet may benefit from canine rehab services if he or she:

  • Has recently undergone orthopedic or other surgery

  • Suffers from a chronic condition such as hip dysplasia

  • Is in need of a systematic weight loss program

  • Is a performance dog in need of fitness training to gain a competitive edge for agility, the breed ring or other canine sports
  • Has decreased mobility due to arthritis, lameness or “old age”

Studies show that post-operative rehabilitation results in improved limb function and gait in dogs that have suffered a ruptured cranial cruciate ligament.  Research also shows promise in the use of underwater treadmill exercise in the management of pain related to degenerative joint disease or arthritis in older dogs.

K9 Rehabilitation & Fitness Center’s programs can help get your dog back into the game, whether that game is fetching the ball in the backyard, or serious competition in canine sports.
